Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said an award, to be given in recognition of teachers that make outstanding contributions, would be established to commemorate Maherin Chowdhury while speaking about the sacrifice that teachers made in the aftermath of the plane crash at Milestone School and College.
Maherin was a teacher at the school, which was set ablaze after a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed right into the building on 21 July.
However, instead of panicking, Maherin rushed her students to safety, valiantly going back into the smoke and flames time and again to save more.
According to reports, she was able to save at least 20 children before the flames engulfed her.
Maherin did not survive the injuries, drawing her last breath at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute the day of the tragic incident.
"The cabinet discussed their bravery and recognition. The whole nation knows about Maherin Chowdhury's bravery and sacrifice to save her students. The Education Ministry is going to announce an award in her name soon. This award will be only for teachers. The proposed name is "Maherin Chowdhury Award for Outstanding Service," Alam said at a press briefing.
