Mahin Sarkar, who was expelled from the NCP on Monday night for violating party discipline, claimed on Tuesday that the expulsion was not carried out in accordance with the rules.
"Apart from contesting the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, I have not done anything that could be considered a violation of party discipline," the former NCP joint member secretary said while talking on a live programme on Jamuna TV.
"I have committed no irregularities or corruption. Yet, I do not know why this is being called a breach of discipline. The party had indicated that there would be no objection if I contested for a lower position in the DUCSU election, but I did not agree to that," Mahin said, adding that a bar on participating in the DUCSU election was not in the constitution of any party, including the NCP."
Party insiders said Mahin had announced his candidacy for the post of general secretary in the upcoming DUCSU election under the panel led by Jamaluddin Muhammad Khalid, convener of the Swadhin Bangladesh Chhatra Sangsad.
On Monday night, the NCP expelled Mahin for violating party discipline by announcing his candidacy for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.
The decision was taken at the directive of the party's Convener Nahid Islam, and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, according to a press release issued on Monday.
According to the release, the expulsion order was effective immediately.
