Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman on Tuesday said those making disparaging remarks about the Bangladesh army were young and would feel ashamed for it after growing up.
Speaking at the "Officers' Address" programme in Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday, he said, "There is no reason to be upset after hearing such insults. Those who are doing this are of our children's age. When they grow up, they will realise their mistakes, and will feel ashamed."
Highlighting the upcoming elections, he said the army had made all necessary preparations and would assist the government in holding free, fair and neutral polls, the Prothom Alo reports.
General Waker also noted that army personnel had been doing field duties for much longer than before.
"You must maintain good relations with everyone. Remove any distance created," he told the officers.
He urged that professionalism be displayed in discharging duties in the field, the Prothom Alo report added.
He also said that an investigation is underway regarding an allegation against an army member of being involved with a political party. The chief said if the allegation is proven, action will be taken against him.
No member of the army can become involved in political activities, he warned.
Stating that an allegation of violence against women against another officer is under investigation, General Waker said if the allegation is proven, there will be consequences. He, however, said there would no way be any "trial" through social media.
He also asked all to be vigilant against false information spread on social media.
Senior officials of the army were present in person as well as virtually at the address.
