Initiatives are being taken to temporarily shut down several online pages to prevent cyberbullying centring the Dhaka University Central Students' Council (DUCSU) election, Farrukh Mahmud, deputy director of the university's Public Relations Department, informed through a press release on Sunday afternoon.
The release identified several pages, including 'Dhaka University Nirapotta Moncho', 'Dhaka University Sikkharthi Sangsad-1' and 'Dhaka University Sikkharthi Sangsad-2,' and requested that they be shut down immediately. It asked the pages to remain inactive until 10 September, the day after the election is completed.
The university administration has also sent a letter regarding this matter to the chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The press release further adds, "No candidate or group is allowed to participate voluntarily in any kind of service-related activities. All kinds of gift distribution, hospitality, financial assistance, or similar activities are strictly prohibited. Such activities will be considered violations of the election code of conduct."
Several candidates have been accused of campaigning before the allocated time.
Regarding this, the press release states, "Campaign billboards and banners put up on campus by participating candidates and related groups have either been removed or are being removed."
Additionally, it has been decided that all activities of the Green Future Foundation, which conducts various service works on campus, as well as its shuttle services, will be suspended until 10 September.
