Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said his two-day visit to Bangladesh was "very productive".
In a post on X, after meeting Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, and other Bangladeshi politicians and officials, he said, "There was complete convergence of views during wide-ranging & fruitful discussions with Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain and his team…"
"We also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including revitalization of SAARC," the post made on 25 August added.
Dar flew to Bangladesh on Saturday, days after the two nations eased visa restrictions for travel between them.
The last time a high-level Pakistani delegation visited Bangladesh was in November 2012, featuring Pakistan's then foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khan.
Islamabad is hailing Dar's latest visit "historic" and a "significant milestone in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations".
Since a popular uprising toppled the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August 2024, ending a 15-year-long tenure infamous for its uncompromising favour towards New Delhi, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been aiming for a rapid thaw in bilateral relationships.
After he met with Dar on Sunday, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said that Bangladesh's relations with Pakistan were deliberately held back by the previous regime, adding, "We want our relationship with Pakistan to be similar to our relationship with other countries".
The two countries signed one agreement and five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on Sunday.
The agreement allows visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic and official passports. The MoUs cover the establishment of a joint working group on trade and commerce, cooperation between Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and the Associated Press of Pakistan, collaboration between the foreign service academies of both countries, and ties between the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies and its Pakistani counterpart.
"I am confident this visit will add new momentum to Pakistan–Bangladesh relations, with more frequent exchanges and enhanced cooperation across all sectors," Dar said in his post.
