A total of 21 candidates withdrew their nominations from the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election on Monday, the last day to retract nominations.
Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin, chief returning officer of the DUCSU election, shared the update at a press conference.
From Tuesday, candidates can officially begin campaigning in compliance with the election regulations.
To avoid complications during voting, the Chief Returning Officer said students may cast their votes by showing their hall card, university ID card, library card, or pay-in slip.
No major violations of code of conduct yet, returning officer says
The chief returning officer also said that no major violations of the election code of conduct have been reported so far.
To prevent any such incidents, he and his team are closely monitoring the process.
"If any inequality or discrimination is observed and submitted in writing, we will take action in accordance with the rules," he said.
However, many others have said that violations are being swept under the rug.
On Sunday, Jabir Ahmed Jubel, who is contesting the post of assistant general secretary under the the Protirodh Parshad panel, said much the same.
"We are witnessing repeated violations of the code of conduct by leaders of various panels. They are openly violating these rules in front of the university administration and the election commission. Yet, the commission remains silent."
On August 22, Umama Fatema, a vice-president candidate from the Independent Students Unity panel, accused the administration of being "indifferent" when it came to enforcing the code of conduct.
She alleged authorities "failed" to take measures against violations, fearing such lax enforcement could lead to disorder on election day.
Umama herself then violated the code and issued an apology on Monday. She submitted a written apology to the Provost of Begum Rokeya Hall on Monday, acknowledging the breach.
Jasim Uddin added that a meeting with all VP, GS, and AGS candidates regarding the code of conduct would be held on Tuesday at 11:00am.
