Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Monday joined the 'Stakeholders' Dialogue' on the Rohingya situation in Cox's Bazar, which called for joint efforts to ensure sustainable peace in Myanmar and in the region, dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas, and addressing the challenges on multiple fronts.
He arrived at Cox's Bazar Airport around 10 am.
He attended the three-day conference as the chief guest titled 'Stakeholders' Dialogue: Takeaways to the High-Level Conference on Rohingya Situation' at Hotel Baywatch in Inani.
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that the interim government is giving utmost priority to the Rohingya issue. To facilitate effective international discussions, three major conferences have been planned, with the first now underway in Cox's Bazar.
Preparations are underway for the largest conference at the United Nations General Assembly on September 30, where representatives from nearly 170 countries are expected to participate. Another significant conference is also anticipated to be held in Doha, Qatar.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam emphasised, "Highlighting the humanitarian crisis faced by the Rohingya on international platforms is not an easy task. This conference, therefore, holds special significance."
The first day of the conference, on Sunday, included a special session with Rohingya representatives to discuss ways to build trust and create a good environment for their return.
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar Thomas H Andrews joined the session along with delegates from nearly 40 countries, including diplomats, representatives of various UN agencies, and international organisations.
