Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is holding a mass rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to put forth a seven-point demand.
Jamaat has put the demands up on the party's website.
They are:
- Justice for the mass killing that took place on 5 August, 2024 and all other such incidents
- Fundamental reforms at every state level
- Full implementation of the historic July Charter and declaration
- Rehabilitation of the families of those martyred and injured in the July uprising
- Holding national elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system to reflect the true will of the people.
- Taking concrete measures to ensure voting rights for expatriates.
- Equal opportunities and a level playing field for all political parties and candidates
Thousands of supporters attended the rally, which was the party's first at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan since independence.
Many parts of the capital came to a standstill as buses carrying supporters parked at distant spots, and the supporters walked through the capital in batches of hundreds.
