Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Shafiqul Alam, on Friday said national parliamentary elections will be held in the first week of February 2026, with no possibility of postponement.
"As announced by the chief adviser, the national elections will be completed in the first week of February next year. There is no chance of the election being delayed," he told reporters during a visit to Magura.
He also expressed hope that the upcoming polls will be held in a festive atmosphere.
In response to a question about the role of the police in the national elections, Shafiqul said, "The police will not be there alone. Other agencies will also remain active alongside them.
"Moreover, if the people remain vigilant, the election will be held smoothly at any cost."
While responding to a question about security during the upcoming Durga Puja, the press secretary said, "With the goodwill of the government and the sincere efforts of all, the biggest religious festival of our Hindu brothers and sisters will be celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour like the previous year. For this, all the relevant government agencies have been instructed."
