The body of Jannatul Ferdous, a teacher at Jahangirnagar University (JU) who passed away while on duty during the JUCSU election, was brought to the university campus on Friday.
Around 1:00pm on Friday, the body was brought to the front of university's Old Arts Building. Many students broke down in tears, visibly shaken by the sudden loss.
Associate Professor of the Fine Arts Department, Dhiman Sarker, said, "Ma'am was a modest person. She was in charge of student welfare. As a teacher and as a human being, she was very sincere. She was extremely caring towards the students."
Raied Hasan, a student of the 50th batch of the Fine Arts Department, said, "Alongside academics, we also received help from Ma'am in many personal matters. Her sudden death is a shock for us. I still cannot accept it."
Earlier in the day, Ferdous suddenly lost consciousness in the corridor in front of her colleagues while performing her duties during the ongoing JUCSU vote counting. She was immediately taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where on-duty Dr Shaon Hossain declared her dead around 9:00am.
According to university sources, Jannatul Ferdous was serving as a polling officer for the JUCSU and Hall union elections. She was a lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts at Jahangirnagar University.
Her sudden death has cast a shadow over the election proceedings, leaving the campus in mourning.
