Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Niaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday said that blind party politics has significantly harmed the country's educational institutions and industrial sector, resulting in a persistent gap between academia and industry.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar at the auditorium of the Leather Engineering and Technology Institute as the chief guest.
It is essential to bridge the distance between academia and industry in the interest of national development, he said.
"Our institutions must break free from the clutches of partisan politics to ensure they can serve the country effectively," he added.
Highlighting the importance of aligning education with industry needs, the VC called for a modernised curriculum that incorporates both theoretical and practical knowledge.
"It is crucial to design academic programmes that respond to the real demands of our industrial sector," he also said.
Niaz Khan also emphasised the need to make internship opportunities more effective and industry-relevant, enabling students to gain hands-on experience and better prepare for careers in the leather and allied industries.
The event titled 'Inspiring Youth Career for Leather, Footwear and Leather Goods Industries' was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Leather Engineering and Technologist Society and Renaissance.
Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Director of the Leather Engineering and Technology Institute, presided over the event.
DU Pro-VC (Administration) Saima Haque Bidisha and Pro-VC (Education) Mamun Ahmed attended it as special guests.
