As the full results of the DUCSU elections remain caught in delays, questions are beginning to rise: what's the hold-up?
Now, one out of the remaining three announcements is just trickling in, amid much uproar from those gathered, weary by now.
But weight has already been lent to nefarious designs hatched.
Independent VP candidate Umama Fatema has declared a boycott of the DUCSU election, while Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed panel's VP candidate Abidul Islam Khan has labelled the election an "orchestrated farce."
Earlier, GS candidate of Pratirodh Parshad Meghmollar Bosu had taken to Facebook to question the delays, alluding to a conspiracy underway.
Although the Chief Returning Official of the DUCSU polls, Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin, had vowed to deliver the result by midnight at the latest, the promise has fallen hollow.
Votes have slowly trickled in, with three centres still left as the clock struck 6 a.m.
The three centres remaining are: Senate Building Centre, Udayan School and College Centre, and Dhaka University Club Centre.
Jasim had earlier mentioned, just before midnight, that the delays were the result of separating the five-page ballots before counting the votes.
But even then, he had said that midnight would remain the deadline.
Analysts have also said the delays have only stoked worries about the fairness of the polls.
At this point, the preparedness of the committee tasked with conducting the elections also needs to be questioned.
Whether any outside pressure played a part should also be examined.
For now, students wait on campus for the results. Some among them have already gathered to celebrate – but all joy must be paused.
The authorities have yet to formally say much more in this regard.
