Julius Caesar Talukder, a former leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Salimullah Muslim Hall at Dhaka University, appeared on the final list of candidates for the Dhaka University Central Student's Union (DUCSU) election on Tuesday
The decision went against a recommendation made to the authorities recently.
On Sunday, Chief Returning Officer Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that a recommendation had been made to university authorities to exclude Talukder's name from the voter and candidates' lists.
The decision to remove his nomination was made after several student panels and general students submitted complaints to the election commissioner, alleging his involvement in violent activities and requesting the cancellation of his nomination.
It is worth noting that Julius Caesar Talukder contested the 2019 DUCSU hall union elections from the Chhatra League panel of Salimullah Hall and was elected as General Secretary (GS).
He was accused of assaulting and forcefully removing a student named Farid from the hall to prevent him from running against him.
However, since no formal case was filed based on the allegation, the charges could not be officially proven against him.
