Abu Shadik Kayem, contesting the post of vice-president (VP) candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union election, said that efforts were made to sabotage the polls.
Speaking to reporters at the university's TSC area around 3:30pm on Tuesday, he described DUCSU as "the aspiration of July" and vowed to take a strong stance against those attempting to derail the election process.
"Allegations have been raised against a staff member for irregularities, proper action must be taken. A mob was created at the polling site, and that too needs to be addressed. We expect responsible behaviour from everyone. Through this election, we want to give a wonderful message of democracy.
"We will accept whoever the students choose as their leader. However, steps must be taken in response to the complaints received so far. In polling centres, such as Amar Ekushey Hall and TSC, ballots were found to be pre-filled with a cross sign. We urge the authorities to investigate the matter and take action accordingly."
He further mentioned that they want to deliver a positive message to everyone through free and fair elections.
"The university's security needs to be strengthened as many outsiders are entering the campus, and there are incidents of candidates being attacked with slogans," he added.
