Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib expressed concerns that clashes could break out at any time at DU gates because Jamaat-Shibir activists had taken positions there.
He told this to Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan at the Senate Bhaban after DUCSU polling ended on Tuesday afternoon.
"Is the administration bowing down before the Jamaat? Is there no law enforcement in the country?" he asked.
Rakibul and several other Chhatra Dal leaders expressed their disappointment over what they said were irregularities during polling.
Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said, "Since morning, we have been receiving reports that Jamaat goons have been gathering at eight points on campus. You couldn't take any action in eight hours. This has affected the elections. People think that you are affiliated with the Jamaat. There are rumours about Jamaat's affiliation with the proctor as well."
He also alleged that the Jamaat men who gathered at the gates were carrying arms and had been preparing to engage in criminal activities.
Nasir also mentioned that Chhatra Dal submitted 16 complaints of irregularities to the DU election authorities.
At that moment, several Chhatra Dal activists said Jamaat-Shibir had created an atmosphere of fear at the entrances, adding that they themselves would take action unless the authorities did something.
In response, VC Niaz Ahmed Khan said a few complaints had been received.
"This is a large-scale election with many voters and candidates. Only two to three minor complaints have been lodged, and the election commission has addressed those," he said.
He also denied any political affiliation, stating, "Personally, I have never been involved in any party politics. We were unaware of their [Jamaat's] presence at the gates since morning. Regarding the gathering of Jamaat activists, we have spoken with the police, and they are taking measures."
The VC added that crowds began to form in the afternoon, and the administration was "discussing what can be done. We have spoken with the police three to four times. We also talked to the home affairs adviser."
