The Dhaka University authority has revealed a plan to deploy Army personnel as a "striking force" in the seven gates of the campus during the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) polls.
The army will function as the third tier in the security preparations.
The University BNCC members and the Proctorial team will work as the first tier, and the police as the second tier.
If necessary, the army will enter the campus and will cordon off polling centers until results are announced. During vote counting, only authorised persons will be allowed entry.
Furthermore, no outsiders will be allowed in residential halls for seven days before the election.
The plan was revealed at a meeting with candidates for vice president (VP), general secretary (GS), and assistant general secretary (AGS) at both the DUCSU and hall levels, along with the chief returning officer and returning officers on Tuesday at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the university.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Returning Officer and Professor of Botany, Mohammad Jasim Uddin.
Professor Golam Rabbani (Institute of Social Welfare and Research), Professor Kazi Maruful Islam (Department of Development Studies), Professor Nasrin Sultana (Health Economics Institute), Professor Shahidul Islam (Department of Banking and Insurance), Professor S. M. Shameem Reza (Department of Mass Communication and Journalism), Professor Tariq Manzoor (Department of Bengali), Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir (Institute of Education and Research), along with the hall-level returning officers were present at the meeting.
At the meeting, the returning officers provided guidance to the candidates on adhering to the election code of conduct and maintaining a fair and orderly environment.
