Amid escalating unrest and loss of lives in Nepal, Dhaka has said it is closely observing the situation, calling on all sides to exercise restraint and resolve differences through peaceful dialogue.
"Bangladesh hopes that all sides will exercise maximum restraint and engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue to resolve any differences," read a statement issued by the foreign affairs ministry on Tuesday afternoon.
As a longstanding friend and neighbour of Nepal, Bangladesh remains confident in the ability of the resilient people of Nepal to restore peace and ensure stability.
Bangladesh expressed its sincere condolences over the tragic loss of lives, extended sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased, and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured, said the statement.
The Nepal government's violent suppression of protestors, which left 19 people dead and many others injured on Monday, spiralled into a major political crisis on Tuesday, culminating in the resignation of prime minister KP Sharma Oli.
At the heart of the protests are the country's youth, whose mobilisation has reshaped Nepal's political landscape. In particular, the strong presence of Generation Z has propelled the movement to an unforeseen height.
