Six houses were robbed in the Bakshi Chandpur village under Jahapur union in the Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur on the night of 10 August, sparking an atmosphere of extreme panic in the area.
After breaking in through makeshift tunnels dug in the dead of the night, the thieves fled with cash, gold ornaments and several mobile phones.
The victims claim the thieves entered the earthen houses while everyone was asleep.
"Many people woke up and found the doors of the houses open and the things scattered. When I awoke, I saw that someone had broken into the house and committed theft," said Saiful Khan, one of the victims.
"I did not hear anything at night. When I woke up, I saw that everything inside the house was turned upside down. Two mobile phones and cash were taken. They also stole gold jewellery from our neighbours.
Despite six families being affected by the incident, no complaints have been filed with the police station in this regard so far.
Shamsul Islam Bachchu, the chairman of Jahapur Union Parishad, confirmed that he had heard about the incident.
Madhukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Nuruzzaman did not respond to calls seeking comment.
