Amid a surge in violent incident, the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Monday said major violent crimes have not gone up significantly in recent months in Bangladesh, despite worrying new reports.
Highlighting the official data from Police Headquarters, it said from September 2024 to June 2025, the trend of crimes like murder, rape and robbery have mostly stayed the same and in some cases have even gone down.
In a statement issued, the press wing advised the public to remain alert, but not to panic as the numbers did not suggest a rise in crimes.
It said the data showed stabilisation in major crime categories over the past 10 months.
Crime related to murder has decreased sharply, from 583 in September 2024 to 294 in June 2025, which indicates a sharp drop of nearly 50 percent.
Rape cases also declined from 128 in September to 91 in June.
Other violent crime kidnapping cases also slightly went up.
However, crimes relating to theft and burglary stabilised with no massive shifts over the months.
However, drug-related cases sharply went up as 6893 cases reported in September 2024 jumping to 6603 in June 2025. Fraud and forgery cases also increased.
The cases relating to domestic violence and dowry-related complaints witnessed some upward trend but not indicate a widespread surge.
