Two brothers were killed as a speeding bus slammed into a stationary pickup van on the Feni-Noakhali regional highway in Feni Sadar upazila early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 29, and his younger brother Ekram Hossain, 18, sons of Shah Alam from Lakshiyara Ujalia Kazi Bari in Panchgachia union under the Sadar upazila.
The victims' cousin Sujan said that Mosharraf worked for a transport company named Alvi Enterprise. One of the pickup vans of the company plunged into a roadside ditch in the Panchgachia area on Thursday night.
Upon request from the company, Mosharraf, accompanied by his brother, went there to retrieve it at night.
Around 3am, the Noakhali-bound bus of "Lal Sabuj" paribahan hit the retrieved pickup van from behind, leaving the brothers critically injured as they were standing behind the van in front of Tamim Digital Weighing Scale in the Panchgachia area.
Locals rescued them and rushed to Feni General Hospital, where Mosharraf was declared dead by physicians upon arrival, while Ekram succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) from the Sadar Hospital.
Mohipal Highway Police Station Officer-In-Charge Harunur Rashid said they were aware of the accident and legal action in this regard was underway.
