The Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) and Hill Women's Federation held a protest march and rally in Rangamati to protest the gang rape of a Class-8 student in Khagrachari.
The march started from the Rangamati Kumar Sumit Roy Gymnasium premises and went in front of the District Commissioner's office.
During the event rally, speakers said hill women were not safe anywhere outside their homes with rapes becoming a common occurrence.
They also said not a single rape or murder case in the hills had been addressed properly.
Speakers said they had hoped that the interim government would take effective steps to implement the agreement that would end the rule, exploitation and oppression in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, but that hope and desire did not materialise.
They demanded that all those involved in the rape incident be brought under the law immediately and that the Hill Tracts Accord be implemented with due punishment.
The rally was chaired by Hill Women's Federation Rangamati District Committee Vice President Kabita Chakma.
On June 27, the eight grader was gang raped in Bhaibonchhara Union of Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila. The family, however, came to know about the incident last Wednesday.
The victim's father filed a case with the police station that same day.
After the case, the police arrested four of the six accused on Wednesday night.
