Outdated software, vulnerabilities in file transfer protocols and persistent DDoS attacks pose a serious threat to the nation's cybersecurity ahead of the upcoming elections, warned Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser on posts, telecommunications and IT.
He made the remarks while speaking at a seminar, titled "Cyber in Financial Sector of Bangladesh: Security in Digital Future".
"Only 17 to 20 banks have satisfactory cybersecurity ratings," Taiyeb lamented.
He added that companies often consider security expenses an additional cost and said there was a culture attempting to sweep cyberattacks and threats under the rug.
Taiyeb also said that sensitive information of five crore citizens is available on the dark web and is being misused.
Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser at the Ministry of Finance, stressed the need for strengthening public-private partnerships to boost cyber-security awareness and resilience.
