LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has said that the restrictions imposed by India on the import of certain commodities from Bangladesh through land ports would create new opportunities for the country to become self-reliant.
"The Indian restrictions will cause some temporary losses for businessmen, but in the long run, we believe it will create an opportunity for Bangladesh to become self-reliant," he said.
The adviser made the comment while responding to a journalist's question following a youth rally at the National Youth Institute in Savar on Tuesday, according to a Facebook post made by him on Wednesday.
Regarding the temporary losses faced by businesses due to the Indian restrictions, the adviser added that such setbacks could ultimately contribute to future self-sufficiency.
In another Facebook post, Asif Mahmud—also a youth and sports adviser—commented on the launch of the Starlink internet network, calling it a "revolutionary change" in Bangladesh's telecommunications sector.
"Starlink will particularly help connect remote and inaccessible areas of the country with high-speed internet service, where optical fiber connections have not yet reached," he said.
