Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said his party believes that the national election should be held at a suitable time within the timeframe set by the chief adviser, in a manner that does not cause public inconvenience, reports BSS.
"We have told the chief adviser that two things need to be clarified. First, the election date must be fixed. We believe the election should be held at a convenient time within the timeframe set by the chief adviser, so that it does not cause any inconvenience to the people," he told reporters after a meeting with the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna.
Shafiqur Rahman further said, "Second, before the election, there must be visible reforms and justice presented to the public. If the election is held without completing the reform process, people's expectations will not be met."
"We understand that it is not possible for this government to carry out all the reforms, but they have initiated changes in five specific areas, which should be satisfactorily resolved."
He added, "The chief adviser listened patiently to our two-point proposal. We are confident that he has taken our suggestions positively. He only said that the country belongs to all of us, and he certainly wants to see a meaningful, fair, and transparent election."
