Former Home Minister Lutfozzaman Babar on Sunday said that the BNP was concerned about a reported meeting between ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and S Alam Group representatives in India.
The concerns were expressed during a meeting between a delegation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Babar and Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
"We have expressed our concerns about some issues involving the upcoming national elections, including a meeting between ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and S Alam Group in India to thwart the next national polls," he said after the meeting.
They also expressed concerns about the recovery of looted and illegal firearms and ammunition.
Babar expressed gratitude to the almighty for being able to visit the home ministry after nearly 18 years.
Babar, a former lawmaker from Netrokona-4 constituency, served as state minister for home affairs in the cabinet of former prime minister Khaleda Zia from 2001 to 2006.
However, he was sent to jail after being named as an accused in the August 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.
On 1 December 2024, the High Court acquitted him, and on 16 January 2025, he was cleared of all cases.
He was released from Keraniganj Central Jail that day, ending nearly 16 years of imprisonment.

He was acquitted of all four cases against him.
Babar also said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman would soon return to the country.
