The Dhaka University Central Students' Union, commonly known as DUCSU, was initially established through a decision taken on 1 December 1922 during a meeting of teachers for the 1923–24 academic session.
On 19 January 1923, the then Executive Council of the university approved the decision.
During the initial days, it was known as the Dhaka University Students Union, but in 1953, through an amendment to the constitution, the name was changed to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU).
In the DUCSU's history, it has been formed a total of 37 times so far.
However, in the 54 years since independence, DUCSU elections have been held only 8 times.
