Fatema Khanam Liza, former spokesperson for the Chattogram chapter of Students Against Discrimination (SAD), has announced her resignation from politics, citing what she described as a toxic environment and mistreatment of women within the organisation.
She announced her decision on Friday night on a Facebook Live session.
In the Facebook Live, she stated that SAD leaders in Chattogram, including Khan Talat Mahmud Rafy, Rassel Ahmed, and Rezaur Rahman, failed to take appropriate action against the online harassment of women.
Liza also posted a written statement on her Facebook profile on Saturday afternoon.
"I am officially stepping away from politics. However, I believe someone will continue on this path. But I am deeply concerned about the future of female politicians in Chattogram," she wrote in her status.
"From my own experience, I can say that any female who wants to come into politics in this city faces violence, humiliation, and conspiracy from within her party," reads her status.
