Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said mending public confidence in the electoral process is now a major challenge ahead of the national polls.
"Restoring public trust in the election system is now a major challenge. People have lost confidence in the system. Bringing them back to the polling centres will be a big task," he told a views-exchange meeting at the EC office in Rangpur on Saturday.
He also said the Election Commission (EC) was preparing to hold the next national election despite various challenges.
"The election date will be disclosed two months before the schedule is announced."
Nasir stressed that the EC would not work for or against any particular party in the national election.
"We will work on behalf of the 18 crore people of the country. Misinformation is being spread on social media through artificial intelligence, which the EC is trying to address," he added.
Casting a vote is not only a civic duty but also a moral responsibility, the CEC said, calling upon all to exercise their voting rights.
He reiterated that the EC is making the highest possible efforts to conduct the upcoming parliamentary elections transparently.
