It will not be possible to build the Bangladesh dreamed of during the July Uprising without abandoning the old systems of the defeated forces, said National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam in Nilphamari on Thursday.
On the third day of the NCP's July march for nation-building by the National Citizen Party, there was a widespread response in Syedpur and Nilphamari.
On Thursday, around a quarter to three, the central leaders delivered speeches at public meetings at three locations in the district headquarters. The march began in Syedpur with a visit to Martyr Sajjad's grave.
In a packed rally in Nilphamari, Nahid also said, "The Awami [League] terrorists are still active online; they are laying low but are still present in the country.
"Just yesterday, a cocktail was detonated in front of the NCP central office. Those responsible must be brought to justice. Because the defeated forces are continuously creating obstacles to building the New Bangladesh … If the warriors of the mass uprising are not safe, who will ensure the safety of ordinary people? The government has also failed to maintain law and order."
After talking about abandoning the old ways, he said, "The sooner reforms take place, the faster the country will move in the right direction. From the response we are receiving through the July march, it is clear that we will fulfil the expectations of the people no matter what."
Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organiser of NCP's southern region, said, "To build a New Bangladesh, the constitution must be changed, because the current constitution is an Awami constitution. Without changing it, fascism will not be eradicated. Even if the fascists are gone, fascist ideology remains deeply entrenched in state machinery."
He said the AL regime deprived the people of Nilphamari of development. He sought support from the locals, regardless of political affiliation, to bolster the development of the district through the creation of employment opportunities.
Sarjis Alam, the chief organiser of the northern region, said, "We no longer want to see extortion in the country, no more occupation, no more looting. We don't want to see people being treated like slaves in any government office. We don't want to see any government office where nothing gets done without money. With everyone's cooperation and support, we want to build a beautiful and discrimination-free Bangladesh."
