Superintendents of Police (SPs) and officers-in-charge (OCs) of all districts will be transferred through a lottery system before the national election, Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Home Affairs Advisor held a meeting to formulate various action plans relating to law enforcement agencies in order to ensure the 13th Parliamentary Election run smoothly.
In a speech to the nation on Tuesday, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said preparations for the elections had begun. Chowdhury said the meeting built on that statement, discussing the logistical support that will be required during the elections.
DCs, SPs, Upazila Nirbahi Officers and OCs play an important role in any National Assembly election, he said.
"Candidates often want to appoint their preferred choices to such roles in their constituencies. But this time we have decided to call the media and hold a lottery in front of everyone," he said.
He added, "Regardless of where the officials are, they will be transferred through a lottery before the election."
During the briefing, Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, special assistant to the principal adviser on home affairs, and Nasimul Gani, senior secretary to the home affairs ministry, were among those present.
