While publishing the updated Supplementary Voter List, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Akhtar Ahmed said the primary estimate of voters stands at over 12.61 crore.
He made the disclosure during a press brief at the EC headquarters in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the draft voter list was published today, and the final voter list will be released on August 31.
According to Ahmed, the number of registered voters reached 12,61,70,900. Among them over 6,40,06,916 are male voters and 6,21,62,760 are female voters. Some 1,224 are Hijras.
Noting that three voter lists would be prepared in the current year, Ahmed said the first was finalised in March, and the second is expected to be completed by August 31. The third, taking into account those who will turn 18 by October 31, will be finalised by the end of October.
He added that, as of March 2 this year, the number of voters stood at 12,37,32,274.
Following a door-to-door data collection drive to enlist those who had been left out, 45,71,216 new voters were added while 21,32,590 were removed.
According to EC data, the voter inclusion rate this year is 3.69%, while the net voter growth rate is 1.97%.
Applications to correct any errors in the draft list can be submitted until August 21, the secretary said. These applications will be resolved by August 24, after which the final voter list will be published on August 31.
