Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure a smooth and trouble-free celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting at the home affairs ministry's conference room at the Secretariat.
"As the puja is around the corner, we must take all necessary preparations for the occasion as this is a religious festival, and it is our collective responsibility to uphold its sanctity. It is not about which religion one belongs to, preserving the sanctity of such events is everyone's duty.
"We want to ensure that the puja can be celebrated properly. For that, we need everyone's support and cooperation."
He further mentioned that all necessary measures would be taken to prevent any disturbances during the puja. "We will make arrangements so that everyone can celebrate the festival peacefully and in accordance with religious customs. We are fully committed to maintaining its sanctity.
"In several areas, internal conflicts remain within puja organising committees. We urge them to resolve these issues among themselves and focus on organising the puja in the best possible manner. We hope this year's puja will be celebrated peacefully, in a festive manner, and with due religious solemnity," he added.
