Former Companiganj upazila BNP president Shahab Uddin was arrested in Sylhet on Saturday night in the large-scale white stone looting case from the district's Sada Pathor, a popular tourist destination.
RAB arrested Shahab Uddin from Kumarpara, under Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, around 11:15pm, said a RAB press release. He has been handed over to the police station.

An inactive administration, ineffective drives, lack of monitoring and a law of silence are all combining to spell the death of the picturesque "Sada Pathor". Stream goes inside the nexus to find out what's happening.
On August 11, the BNP suspended Shahab Uddin from all party positions following allegations of his involvement in the stone looting.
The RAB press release said over the past year large amounts of stones were illegally extracted in Companiganj and Gowainghat upazilas.
The issue drew nationwide uproar after reports appeared in the media. In response, RAB-9 intensified drives to identify and arrest those responsible. As part of this effort, Shahab Uddin was arrested in connection with a case filed on 15 August.
He faces seven cases filed with Companiganj and Kotwali police stations in Sylhet, the press release added.
