Two suspected muggers were killed in separate incidents of mob beating in the capital's Mohammadpur area within a span of two days.
The deceased were identified as Sujon alias Babul, 19, and Hanif, 26.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station Kazi Rafique said the incidents took place between around 3 am and 6 am early Wednesday morning at Basila. Both of them were caught while allegedly attempting to snatch mobile phones from a local trader.
The body of one victim was kept at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue while the other was sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) morgue.
Two others—Nata Faisal and Sharif—belonging to the so-called 'Roktochosa Jony group' were injured and are now in police custody.
OC Rafique said the two deceased were wanted in several cases filed with different cases. Legal process is underway in this connection.
Earlier on September 8, two other suspected muggers were subjected to mob beating while attempting to snatch a mobile phone on Road No. 12 of Chandrima Model Town under Mohammadpur Police Station. One of them, identified as Yamin, 23, died, while another, Fahim, 23, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
