Abdul Qader, who is running for DUCSU vice-president, has accused the DU election commission of facilitating the agenda of a particular group and ignoring the breach of code of conduct.
After visiting several polling centres, the nominee of Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad said, "They [Chhatra Dal] said, 'Give us time to organise.' Now I understand what they meant by organising. The election commission is working on behalf of one group. No complaints of violation of conduct are being taken seriously."
Dhaka University authorities last month extended the deadline for submission of nomination papers by a day.
Qader said this was done for the benefit of Chhatra Dal. "A competition of conduct violations is going on. Today, we see how a chaotic DUCSU election is conducted," he added.
Despite these alleged irregularities, Qader praised students for their spontaneous participation in the election but condemned the "mockery" they were subjected to.
"The election commission is working for a particular group. We saw that Chhatra Dal's Abid even entered a polling booth, with no regard for the code of conduct.
"We now understand why Chhatra Dal wanted to lift the age limit, allowing MPhil students to manipulate the vote. The Election Commission is staying silent despite the ongoing irregularities. After such a mass uprising, this kind of DUCSU election is unacceptable."
