If any field administration official shows bias towards any individual or political party, they will be withdrawn and brought under action according to existing laws, said Mokhlesur Rahman, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Wednesday.
Responding to journalists after a meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at the Secretariat, he said there was no indication of any bias so far.
"But if we detect such behavior, we will withdraw that official. They will face administrative action under the prevailing laws."
By the field administration, he said he was referring to divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners (DCs), and upazila executive officers (UNOs).
"They are involved in the election process. Assistant commissioners (land) and other officers serve in magistracy duties to maintain law and order alongside police and military during elections," he added.
"The chief adviser has stated - and even his press secretary reiterated yesterday - that there is no uncertainty regarding the elections, and there is no confusion about maintaining law and order," he further said.
Mokhlesur Rahman also said based on the civil service's experience from the last three elections, a strong message has already been sent to officials.
"Returning officers will be appointed after the election schedule is announced."
He added, "To simplify recruitment, we aimed to complete all procedures in one sitting instead of going through lengthy paperwork. That's why we met."
When asked how many positions have been created, he replied, "I believe it's over 4,000. These are for the position of ASI (Assistant Sub-inspector). Based on the need for sepoys or other posts, requisitions are being submitted. It's not enough for the police to just make appointments- they also need to have the capacity to train recruits. Our officers are undergoing training. Police training centers, including in Rangpur, are operating at full capacity.
"Recruitment and training are both ongoing," he added.
