The RUCSU election was on Wednesday rescheduled for the fourth time following criticism over the previous date, which would have coincided with the sixth day of Durga Puja.
As per the new schedule, Rajshahi University Central Students Union polls will be held on 25 September, moving it ahead from the previously set 28 September.
On Wednesday, after the chief election commissioner announced that the election would take place on 28 September, students criticised the decision, pointing out that many Hindu students would be away from campus celebrating their biggest religious festival.
Later that same night, the election commission for the RUCSU election called an urgent meeting and decided to change the schedule, paying heed to the concerns about the participation of the students from the Hindu community.
An earlier schedule, which predates the one that has been revised now, set the polls to 15 September.
According to the revised schedule, nomination papers will be distributed from 24 to 31 August, and submission is set for 1 to 7 September. The nomination papers will be scrutinised over 8 and 9 September, followed by the publication of the preliminary list of candidates on 11 September.
Objections to the preliminary list will be accepted and resolved on 14 September, with the withdrawal of nominations on 15 September. The final list of candidates will be published on 16 September, and voting as well as the announcement of results will take place at the academic building on 28 September.
