Engineering students continued their blockade at Shahbagh on Wednesday, demanding an apology from the home affairs adviser for what they termed a "brutal and disgraceful" assault on them.
The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and other engineering universities launched a previously announced blockade at 10:00 am.
However, clashes broke out between the students and police when the protesters marched toward the State Guest House Jamuna, the Chief Adviser's official residence, leaving several injured.
At the same time, BUET also condemned the police's decision to baton charge at protesting students.
The condemnation came in a statement issued Wednesday, signed by BUET registrar (Additional Duty) NM Golam Zakaria.
Condemning the police action, the statement said, "Such attacks by the police are completely unacceptable, especially when the issue could have been resolved peacefully."
The statement also expressed hope that the government would take prompt action against those responsible for the attack through a proper investigation.
The students also called on three advisers, Faozul Kabir Khan, Adilur Rahman Khan, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, to appear before them by Wednesday and give assurances regarding their demands.
Additionally, the protesters urged the government to bear the full cost of treatment for all students injured in the clashes and to ensure the safety of all participants during the ongoing movement.
They also demand the removal of Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of DMP Ramna Zone, over attacks on protestors.
