The Election Commission (EC) has approved the action plan (roadmap) for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, which is set to be officially announced on Thursday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, along with the four Election Commissioners and the EC Secretary, held a meeting on Wednesday at the Election Commission Building in the capital's Agargaon to discuss the matter.
At the meeting, the EC formally approved the roadmap.
Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarker said, "Everything in the action plan has been finalised. It has been approved and only the typing is ongoing now."
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the action plan for the upcoming election would be unveiled on Thursday,
"We're ready to inform you of the action plan; we have prepared it. It is on my table now. Just wait until tomorrow," he said in reply to queries.
The EC secretary said he would be able to provide more details on Thursday.
"I will share more information with you then. Until then, please wait."
According to EC officials, the roadmap outlines key preparatory activities, including political party registration, re-demarcation of parliamentary constituencies, reforms to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), updating electoral rules and guidelines, IT-supported voter registration and postal ballot system for expatriates and procurement of essential election materials.
On August 14, Ahmed said the roadmap would provide a clear picture of the commission's preparations for the polls.
He also said it would specify major electoral tasks and their timelines, including schedules for dialogues with civil society members and journalists, as well as deadlines for amendments and reforms to electoral laws.
Earlier, on Thursday, the four Election Commissioners and EC officials held a meeting to finalise the action plan for the 13th Parliamentary Election.
On that day, Election Commissioner Brig Gen Abul Fazal Sanaullah (Retd) had said that the EC Secretary would brief the media with detailed information regarding the action plan.
On 18 August, EC Senior Secretary had said, "We had mentioned that we would finalise the election roadmap this week. The plan includes inter-departmental coordination and other relevant matters. The draft of the action plan has been prepared. It has now been submitted to the Commission for approval."
