Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a two-day visit.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam received him upon his arrival, according to a senior official.
During the visit, Ishaq Dar will have important meetings with Bangladeshi leaders, including Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain.
Discussions are expected to cover the full range of bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, a statement issued by the foreign ministry said.
According to the foreign ministry, some of the top agendas of the meeting will be the following:
- Agreement between the of Bangladesh and Pakistan governments on the Abolition of Visa for the Nationals of Their Countries Holding Diplomatic and Official Passports;
- Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation;
- MoU between the governments on the establishment of a joint working group on trade;
- Cultural Exchange Programme between the governments for 2025-2028;
- MoU between the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh and Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan;
- MoU for Cooperation Between the Bangladesh Institute of International and the Strategic Studies and the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad.
On 4 August, Touhid Hossain said the topic of 1971 would be on the table during his visit.
Ishaq Dar's previous scheduled visit to Bangladesh in April was postponed amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.
