A case has been filed against 2000 unnamed people in connection with the looting of stones from the Bholaganj stone quarry in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet district.
Director General (joint secretary) of Bureau of Mineral Development (BMD), Anwarul Habib, filed the case with Companiganj Police Station on Friday night.
Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Uzayer Al Mahmud Adnan confirmed this to Stream.
"The case has been filed under the Mineral Resources Development and Control Act. A strict operation will be carried out to apprehend the accused," he said.
The FIR stated that certain criminals have been illegally and unauthorizedly looting stones worth crores of taka from a gazetted stone quarry since August 5 of the previous year. The incident has been covered by various national media outlets. However, the identities of those responsible remain unidentified.
