A heart-wrenching tragedy struck the village of Bamanshekhar in Rajshahi's Paba upazila on Friday morning, as four members of a family were found dead inside their earthen home.
The deceased were identified as Minarul Islam, 30, his wife Sadhina Begum, 28, their teenage son Mahim, 13, and 18-month-old daughter Mithila Khatun. Mahim was a class VIII student at Kharkhari High School, police said.
Confirming the matter, Motihar Police Station Sub-Inspector Kalam Parvez said, "On information, we rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the earthen house around 9am."
He said the bodies of Sadhina and little Mithila lay still in a room at the north end of the house, while Minarul and Mahim were discovered hanging from a ceiling fan.
A note, believed to have been written by Minarul, was recovered from the home.
In the note, he hinted at the debt burden and poverty as the reasons behind the family's desperate final act.
Quoting neighbours, police said Minarul worked in agriculture and had been struggling to make ends meet while burdened with loans.
The exact details are still under investigation.
