Chinese investor Kaixi Group has signed a new agreement to invest $40.05 million in an intimate garments and accessories manufacturing facility at the BEPZA Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ), marking its second major investment in the zone.
The agreement was inked on Monday between the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd – a concern of Kaixi Group – at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman witnessed the signing ceremony. BEPZA Member (Investment Promotion) Ashraful Kabir and Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd Chairman Xiao Hongxi signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
According to a press release, under the new project, the company will produce 18 million pairs of lingerie and undergarments, along with 20 million pairs of bra foam and bra cups annually, creating jobs for 3,003 Bangladeshi nationals.
Welcoming Kaixi Group's decision, the BEPZA executive chairman said the expansion-coming just 14 months after the start of their first project-reflects the growing confidence of foreign investors in BEPZA, especially in BEPZA EZ. He praised the company as one of the pioneer investors in the zone.
Kaixi's chairman acknowledged operational challenges, noting the lack of nearby worker housing forces them to bring workers from distant areas, affecting morning attendance. However, he reaffirmed the company's commitment to Bangladesh and the BEPZA EZ.
Kaixi's first project in BEPZA EZ, sanctioned in November 2022 with an investment of $60.85 million, began commercial production in June 2024 and currently employs around 3,700 workers. Across its two existing factories-one in Dhaka EPZ and one in BEPZA EZ-the company has created approximately 6,000 jobs.
Senior BEPZA officials, including Member (Engineering) Imtiaz Hossain, Member (Finance) ANM Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Khorshid Alam, and Executive Director (Public Relations) ASM Anwar Parvez, were present at the event, along with representatives from Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd.
To date, 45 companies, including Kaixi Garments Bangladesh Ltd, have signed agreements to invest over $1 billion in BEPZA EZ, with four already in commercial operation. The BEPZA EZ is the authority's largest venture, aimed at driving industrial growth, job creation, and export earnings in Bangladesh.
