The water level of the Teesta River is likely to rise and cross the danger mark within the next 24 hours, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said on Friday.
Low-lying areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Kurigram districts are expected to be inundated.
"The water level of the Teesta is likely to remain stable for the following two days after the rise," FFWC said in a press release.
However, the Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers may swell and flow above the warning level over the next three days.
The water levels of the Muhuri, Selonia, and Noakhali Khal rivers are predicted to increase and cross the warning mark in the next 24 hours, which could cause temporary flooding in some low-lying parts of Feni and Noakhali districts.
According to the press release, the Surma-Kushiyara, Sarigoyain, Manu, Dhalai, Jadukata, Jhalukhali, Khoai, Lubachhara, Someshwari, Bhugai, and Kangsa rivers may rise to flow above the warning level between August 9 and 11, which could affect the north-eastern region.
"Meanwhile, in the next four days, the Ganges and Padma rivers are also forecast to rise and may flow above the warning level," FFWC said.
Authorities have advised residents of vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions to minimise damage from possible flooding, the FFWC said.
