Those who turn 18 by 31 October this year will be included in the voter list and they will be able to cast their votes in the next national polls, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said on Thursday.
Following an amendment to the Voter List Act 2009, the EC now can add individuals to the list anytime of the year, he said at a media briefing held at the EC office.
Before the amendment, new names were added to the list only on the first day of the year.
Sanaullah added that the EC had added new names to the list on 1 January this year.
He estimated that 18 to 20 lakh new names would be added to the list by the end of October.
Electoral Code of Conduct
The EC had approved the electoral code of conduct, he said without going into details.
The EC would be strict about misinformation and disinformation. For this, the EC would form a committee, he said, adding that the use of drones would be prohibited on election day.
Answering a question, he said the authorities will begin expatriate voter registration in September.
The EC is currently considering whether to use CCTV cameras at the polling stations, Sanaullah further said.
