Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Sunday inaugurated the Navy and Air Force Selection Board-2025 at the Naval Headquarters in the capital.
The formal promotion process for Navy officers took place through this ceremony, reads a press release issued by the ISPR on Sunday.
The selection board, formed with senior military officials from the highest policy-making levels, selected qualified and competent officers for future senior leadership positions in the Navy and Air Force, subject to government approval.
At the beginning of the event, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of the victims of the tragic air crash at Milestone School and College.
In his inaugural speech at the Selection Board-2025 ceremony, the chief adviser paid deep respect to the brave members of the armed forces who sacrificed their lives in the Great Liberation War of 1971, all freedom fighters from all walks of life, and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the student-public uprising of July–August 2024.
The chief adviser also commended the Navy and Air Force for standing beside the people during national crises, particularly during the security crisis following the July–August 2024 student-public uprising, and for their role in maintaining law and order, contributing to nation-building, and participating in public service initiatives, thereby earning the trust and love of the people.
He provided guidance on the protection and extraction of marine resources to achieve economic prosperity, the Navy's role in managing future economic hubs such as the deep-sea port, and in developing skilled human resources essential for the growth of the blue economy.
Yunus also highlighted various ongoing initiatives aimed at the development of the blue economy, including the establishment of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA), development of coastal areas, and overall national development, emphasising the contributions of both the Navy and the Air Force.
Furthermore, he emphasised the important roles both forces play in improving the national education system, serving and protecting the country, and modernising the armed forces. He expressed hope that the Navy and Air Force will continue their commitment to upholding the Constitution and standing by the people in times of national crises and disasters.
