Interview: Bangladeshi-American Shahana Hanif, NYC's first Muslim female council member

Shahana Hanif is the first Muslim female to become a New York City council member. 

She is also a Bangladeshi-American.

Shahana currently serves as the co-chair of the New York City Council's Progressive Caucus. Among her most significant legislative achievements are the NYC Abortion Rights Act, universal curbside composting, and workers' rights bills.
