Alleging that Awami League activists had attacked the Secretariat earlier on Tuesday, BNP and NCP activists and supporters have surrounded the party's central office in the Dhaka's Gulistan, demanding a ban on the organisation.
Speaking to Jugantor, Farzana Ahmed, who said she was an NCP leader, said, "You saw the Milestone [College plane crash] tragedy yesterday. A plane fell, so many children, students and teachers died … But today supporters of the fascist AL dressed in school uniforms and attacked the Secretariat."
She said from now the central office would be used for the welfare of July martyrs.
Another protester said the AL had called for a hartal today, which was unacceptable.
"We want AL banned," the protester said.
Through loud speakers it could be heard that food would be provided to the protesters. A screen was also seen where a documentary on the July movement was being screened.
Earlier on Tuesday, a group of protesters broke into the Secretariat. Before that, two interim government advisers were trapped by protesters soon after they managed to exit the Milestone College, where they had gone for a visit.
