The first group of Bangladeshis seeking repatriation amid the Israel-Iran conflict, consisting of 28 individuals, have successfully reached the Pakistan border via bus and will soon be flown back to Bangladesh.
The group was expected to reach Karachi, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday, with necessary help from the government of Pakistan.
Moreover, the Bangladesh embassy in Tehran will continue to assist remaining Bangladeshi nationals who wish to be repatriated until the situation in Iran normalises.
Meanwhile, the embassy maintains its effort to reach out to Bangladeshi citizens residing in Iran via two hotline numbers activated at the beginning of the conflict, the press release added.
The government initiated the necessary process to repatriate all Bangladesh citizens living in Iran who wish to return to Bangladesh, said MoFA spokesperson Shah Asif Rahman on Sunday. However, the process of bringing others back to Bangladesh will be completed in phases.
As many as 2,000 Bangladeshis live across Iran, of whom around 400 are based in Tehran.
