Milestone teacher Masuka Begum, who died trying to save her students after a fighter jet crashed into the school building on Monday, was laid to rest the next day at her sister's home in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria.
In her final hours at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, she expressed her wish to be buried there.
Masuka's brother-in-law Khalilur Rahman said, "We received the news of her death from her colleagues. She could have escaped safely if she wanted to, but she died trying to save her students from the flames. She told her colleagues to ensure her body was taken to her sister's home. As per her wish, we buried her in the cemetery near our house."
The 38-year-old teacher was inside her classroom when the Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed into the school building.
Witnesses said Masuka was helping children evacuate when flames engulfed the classroom.
"I question why training flights are operated over such a densely populated area. We demand a proper investigation and strict punishment for those responsible," said Khalilur.
Masuka was the youngest of three siblings and the daughter of Siddique Ahmed Chowdhury from Chilokut village in Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria.
After completing her education at Brahmanbaria Government College and Eden College in Dhaka, she followed her passion for teaching. She joined Milestone School and College two years ago as an English teacher in the primary section.
Her funeral was held at Sohagpur Eidgah field and was attended by grieving family members, classmates, locals, and political figures. She was buried at the Sohagpur cemetery.
Locals and family members are now demanding a thorough investigation into the crash and justice for the lives lost. Masuka's bravery and sacrifice have touched hearts across the country, as many remember her not just as a teacher but as a true hero.
